In 2022, my partner and I bought our first home in London – a centrally located, ex-council one-bedroom flat in Bermondsey.

It’s a 12-minute walk to Tower Bridge and a 30-minute walk to Tate Modern – the dream location for us, vibrant city dwellers.

Council homes aren't what people think.

There’s a lot of outdated thinking about council properties in the UK. People often overlook them, assuming they’re run-down or in bad areas.

But the truth is, they can be great for first-time buyers, investors, and those who seek a sense of community.

Let me tell you why.

I share stories about creative income generation. Strategic choices like homebuying can support or hinder creative freedom and independent income. Subscribe to my newsletter for more stories like this:

A home should support your current (not future) lifestyle

I believe homeownership should feel like liberation, not liability.

For those of us who crave creativity and independence, the home can either set you free or tie you down.

At this stage in my life, I'm crafting a path that feels authentically mine.

I need a space that offers time and freedom to explore different business ideas, to let my creativity flow without restraint.

I don't want to be trapped in a 9-to-5 grind just to keep up with mortgage payments.
